Liu has sought to widen his horizons beyond acting since his star significantly rose after he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe to star as 2021’sShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' title character. He told PEOPLE back in April that he holds"a bit of an aspiration" to appear on Broadway.

“I’m Just Ken” is still generating praise as the film industry enters awards season: the song received nominations for best song at both the2024 Critics Choice Awardsand2024 Golden Globe Awardsthis week. Two other songs fromBarbie —“Dance the Night” and “What Was I Made For?” — were also nominated for those awards shows.
