Souljah is the author of seven works of fiction and nonfiction. She published her memoir,No Disrespect, in 1994; the book discusses race, class and gender, and features chapters dedicated to prominent figures in Souljah’s life.The Coldest Winter Ever, one of her most celebrated works, has sold over 1 million copies.

Aside from writing, Souljah is known for her activism, particularly for the Black community. She has been involved with International anti-apartheid movements and created the African Youth Survival Camp as a student, perher website. She has also organized against police brutality and racially-motivated crimes as a community activist.

Souljah is also a performer. She was previously a member of hip-hop groupPublic Enemyand her solo album,360 Degrees of Power, was released in 1992.
