WhenKim Kardashian Westvisited President Donald Trump to plead for clemency for Alice Marie Johnson, the star wore a very special accessory to help boost her confidence.
“I bought Jackie Kennedy Onassis’s watch at auction,” Kardashian West, 38, says in her cover story withVogue. “I wore it when I went to the White House. It gave me some power: Let’s get in there and get this done!”
It was first reported that Kardashian West was the anonymous bidder who purchased the first lady’s gold Cartier watch with a black band at Christie’s in N.Y.C. in 2017. While the beautiful timepiece was expected to be purchased for $120,000, it ended up going for a lofty $395,000 to theKeeping Up with the Kardashiansstar.

WhileKardashian West may not agree politically with Trump, she used Kennedy’s watch to channel her inner leader when she went to the White House to fight for justice for Johnson. Ultimately, her hard work paid off.

Days after the star’s meeting with the President Trump, he commuted the sentence. “Ms. Johnson has accepted responsibility for her past behavior and has been a model prisoner over the past two decades,” the White House said in a statement.
“While this Administration will always be very tough on crime, it believes that those who have paid their debt to society and worked hard to better themselves while in prison deserve a second chance,” the statement added.
Mic, the publication that first brought Johnson’s case to Kardashian West’s attention, followed Johnson’s release from federal prison in Aliceville, Alabama, where she had been serving her sentence for more than 20 years.
Now, Kardashian West is has big plans to use herpassion for criminal justice to become a lawyer. In her interview withVogue, the star reveals that she’s studying to become a lawyer and decided last summer to begin a four-year apprenticeship with a law firm in San Francisco, with the goal of taking the bar in 2022.
“I had to think long and hard about this,” she says of her decision, explaining that she eventually decided to embark on the journey after “seeing a really good result” with Johnson.
“I never in a million years thought we would get to the point of gettinglawspassed,” she says. “That was really a turning point for me.”
