Sheila Williams has been editor of Asimov ’s Science Fiction Magazine since 2004 — but she ’s been involve with the magazine for 31 long time , since she do on display panel as an editorial assistant . lecture to Locus Magazine , she reminisces about working with Isaac Asimov himself at the mag that bear his name .
Says Williams :
I ended up becoming very close to Isaac . It was a wonderful part ofmy life-time . He ’d come in on Tuesday mornings to drop off an editorial or aletters column , or he ’d just sit and chat . He would stay on about 20minutes , half an hr at the most . He ’d also make the one shot toDoubleday that same morning . He was a joy – so much sport . Usually he wasin a great mood and was very funny . Sometimes he ’d be down , but healways enjoyed coming in to see us . He ’d perk up when he talked with us .

Isaac never require to be editorial music director . He was clear thateditors would be hired who knew their jobs , and he did not want to beinvolved in the mental process of buy stuff . On rare function , Shawna would give him some story to scan that she think were wayover the edge . He would almost always say , ‘ I intend we should go ahead . ’I think once or twice he say , ‘ This might really be refutable . ’ Andshe would n’t buy them . She did not have to do that . He was a wonderful sounding board , but he was n’t take in final decision .
There ’s tons more fascinating stuff at the link , and even more in the print magazine . [ Locus ]
