Here ’s one of the good moment from last nighttime ’s sequence of Supergirl . The fight scenes were actually pretty bully , and seemed to be done in a way that actually used the show ’s low VFX budget to good essence . This moment felt like it borrowed from Chronicle , in a great fashion . interpret on for more of the good and regretful second from “ Hostile Takeover . ” Spoilers ahead …
Worst : All of the stuff involving the Kryptonian baddie . For one thing , the Kryptonians spill the beans in this weirdly stilted fashion that does n’t quite work . “ Have you ever know me to break my promises … . husband ? ? ? ” ( How many time a day do you treat your hubby or wife by their title like that ? )
For another , we have n’t seen much of General Astra and the rest of them since the show ’s 2nd episode , and there ’s a lot of groundwork the show has done on the remainder of its set - up that ’s sadly missing here . We ’re suppose to manage about the puerility relationship between Kara and Aunt Astra , and we just do n’t . ( Apparently Kara got Aunt Astra burst , because Astra came to call in Kara and then Kara ’s mom arrested her . )
Also ! The thing where Astra is an eco - terrorist , who seek to prevent the destruction of Krypton and is now trying to prevent homo from destroying our own major planet , is just so , so heavy - handed . Ugh . It ’s like , yes , fracking will get the Earth ’s core to detonate . Sure . Whatever . Oh , and this episode make excessive , pointless use of the “ baddie got caught on purpose ” figure of speech . Which was so 2013 , in any fount . Plus , why does n’t window pane like that there ’s a crowd of Kryptonian outlaw plotting to take over the world ?

Best : Supergirl loses it at her holographical mommy . I sleep together this instant . Any meter Supergirl ’s grief and rage at being almost the last survivor of her species , beam alone to a stigma new planet , comes out , the show is on fire . The touch where she just lets loose with her passion vision is beautiful .
defective : Cat Grant ’s suddenly got her own child that she abandoned . This felt a little too random , and was clearly bewilder in just as a vis-a-vis to Kara ’s own feelings that her mother abandoned her . Not every single episode needs to have “ A ” and “ B ” plots that dovetail quite so neatly . Of course , the show may actually bring in Adam as a character at some point , and then peradventure I ’ll feel differently . But for now , it felt meretricious , and random .
Best : Everything else about the “ Cat Grant get hack ” storyline . let in the walking embodiment of manly privilege getting pwned . And all of the funny material about what ’s in Cat ’s leaked email , including her require Idris Elba out on a date . And her getting dare by Anderson Cooper to go on some reality boob tube show . Cat Grant is jolly much the salutary character on this show , in general .
Worst : James Olson tells Winn to go for it with Kara . First of all , this come right after Winn has sic James up to go get catch breaking into the male privilege guy ’s office , to eliminate a potential romantic rival . And Winn has been a full jerkhead to James in universal , because he saw Kara and James hugging . But even though Kara has been pretty clear that she ’s got no interest in Winn , James still tell Winn it ’s better to love and recede , blah blah blah . perchance James just want to see Winn crash and burn up . I dunno . The whole “ Winn has a crush on Kara ” subplot is probably the show ’s achilles reheel in good order now though .
Best : Cat unmasks Kara . It ’s a weirdly sexy moment , in which quat face her assistant with all the evidence that she ’s Supergirl , and they kind of dalliance . Forget the Winn - Kara - James love trigon , I am now 1000 percent a Cat / Kara shipper , now and forever .
Best : The terminal fighting prospect . Although Martian Manhunter is being awfully casual about revealing to random strangers that he ’s not human , just a few day after he almost died to keep his mystery . But now that we , the witness , know , I guess it no longer matters . But I love Max Lord hitting the Kryptonians with his amazing unknown - fight weaponry , then pause to position and preen instead of pressing the advantage . Oh , and that ’s Astra ’s husband , a newly introduced brother who is apparently substitute the lamentably missing Faran Tahir .
