A team of bland Earth confederacy theoretician recently go to Antarctica in the hopes of proving — once and for all — that our planet is , in fact , flat . Unfortunately for them , the slip seems to have confirmed what scientists and geologistshave long told everybody , and whatphotographic evidenceand videoshave already proven : our major planet is circular .
The expedition in question was chartered by Will Duffy , the pastor of a small church building based outside of Denver , Colorado . Ona websitedevoted to the expedition , Duffy explain that the journeying involves 24 flat earthers and 24 “ globe earthers ” who were “ handpicked ” as “ instance of their various sides . ” The point of the dispatch , which has been dub “ The Final Experiment , ” is to inquire whether a 24 - time of day Lord’s Day exists in Antarctica .
“ The terminal Experiment is a direction to settle the shape of the Earth argumentation , ” the organisation ’s website state . “ Both the flat terra firma side and the globe side agree that whether or not there is a 24 - 60 minutes sun in Antarctica will sustain if we dwell on a flat planet or on a globe . ”

The “ midnight sun,”as it ’s known , is the result of the Earth ’s axile tilt and the position of the Arctic circle comparative to the solar ray of light . It ’s unreadable why flat earthers decided that the sun ’s presence would either show or confute their own impression . After all , if the Earth is actually flat , how do you even explicate the concepts of night and day ? Like , what is the sunshine doing when it gets dark ? Hiding under the cosmic chessboard that is our world ? I do not get laid enough about the tenets of the conspiracy possibility at hand , but I neglect to see why the variation of the sunlight would have any bearing on their notion organization whatsoever .

The Flat Earther movement is mostly a spiritual move ( ithas been advert toas a form of “ extreme Biblical - literalist theology ” ) , which explain a certain amount of its believers ’ aversion to science . In late years , the theory has been platformed by legion right - extension political personalities , includingCandace OwensandTucker Carlson , presumably because it appeals to their largely conservative , presumptively religious audience .
In fact , Owens appears to have ties to the late Antarctica trip-up . In his video , Duffy thank the right - wing podcaster , who he suppose was “ super frantic ” by the theme of the despatch , and claimed that Owens ’ director , Mark Herman , was actually with them in Antarctica . Ina separate video , Duffy read that Herman would report back to Owens ’ hearing on the trip-up ’s findings . In the past , Owens was quoted as say : “ I ’m not a matt earther . I ’m not a round earther . Actually , what I am is I am somebody who has leave the cult of science . ”
