“ Sacrifice , ” the Arrow time of year finale , finally deals out the deaths that fans have been predict all season , along with a generous helping of trailer - worthy lines like , “ You have always known the world he is , ” and “ Someone needs to put an end to this . ” Let us clap all the persona as they croak , phase forget — some never to return .
I ’ve vented a lot of snark at Arrow over the course of the season , but this episode is stuffed full of character nobility , and it has made me rue . As Arrow takes a summertime - long curtain call , I ’d like to take this recap to clap each character as they have their great moment .
First , rent ’s start with the Island Gang . As Fyers launches the projectile at the airplane , Ollie cuts the world ’s tough leather band around his articulatio radiocarpea and the gang springs into action at law . With a great deal of gun - firing by Slade , a lot of prat - kicking and missile reprogramming by Shado , and a lot of look alarmed by Ollie , they manage to re - route the missile back down into the encampment , killing most of the bad hombre . Ollie get under one’s skin his giving second when it ’s distinguish that Fyers is still alive and holding Shado hostage . Picture Ollie as William Tell and Fyers as the apple . It is a victorious day for them all , even if they are still maroon .

Shado ? You ’re the most competent fictitious character on the show . From helpful warlike arts tutorial to hindquarters - boot to projectile - launcher reprogramming , you get things done . Congratulations . Slade ? I care your strut , but mostly I like that Arrow totally fooled me with you . I write an entire fustian on the phony Deathstroke they bring in originally , wondering why he was nothing like the guy from the comic and then ? Bam . You get along . Well done , show .
And well done , show on the next twist . Remember how all twelvemonth long Ollie did ridiculous shirtless rampart - mount stunt ? It was n’t costless ! It was setting things up for his ridiculous , shirtless , rampart - climbing escape . Barrowmerlyn puts Ollie in sleeve - chains suspend from the roof and — horror ! — monologues at him . It ’s a vaporing monologue , about why Ollie ca n’t win , “ because you do n’t make out , in your spunk , what you ’re press for — what you ’re uncoerced to sacrifice . I do . ” When he leaves , Ollie inverts his eubstance , climbs the range , and then knock off , breaking the bar the string are tied to . Badass . Now , I like Ollie ’s manly crying at the end of this episode , but I like to think that this is the vindication for both the grapheme and the actor . All twelvemonth Ollie and Stephen Amell have been subjecting themselves to torture dressed up as a combination of exercise and performance art , and now , at last , all of their effort descend to fruition . Again , well done .
The freshly - unfreeze Ollie make a clean awkward round of conversations . He get Tommy know that his dad is a supervillain ( while Tommy countenance him know that he get it on Ollie is a cheating bunghole ) . He lets Laurel know that she should delay out of the Glades . And he let Moira bang that they need to arrest the earthquake that ’s about to drop the Glades . This leads to two more moments of glory .

The first belongs to Moira , who calls a press conference with every news outlet in town because , anathemise it , she is n’t go to confess over the sound with bad eye make - up and a computer - altered vocalization like her classless son . Moira , you ’ve managed to mesh Lady MacBeth with Jocasta in this series , and you ’ve done it with vogue and grace of God . In this shot alone you were enough to make Barrowmerlyn miss his aplomb to the breaker point where he smashed things like the Hulk , and you were n’t even in the same room with him .
The 2nd moment of glory belongs to hurricane Thea . She ply the one moment of hilarity in this sequence . She watches her mother confess to being an accomplice to multiple slaying , being part of a conspiracy to charge thousands more murder , and doing all this under the terror of house annihilation . She determine her mother get stop . Her mother comes up to her and says , “ I love you . ” And Thea enjoin , “ I love Roy ! ” Moira ’s confused delivery of “ Roy ? ” is a joy . Thea then yells that Roy is in the Glades , and as Moira impotently screams after her not to go to the Glades , she goes stomp off to the Glades . Into an evacuation zone . With no hard-nosed skills of any kind . For a beau with a functional pair of legs and an power to slip cars . To resume my reaction to this , I have to move around to Tai from Clueless . What , exactly , are you going to do , Thea?http://www.youtube.com / watch?v = x6JMsc …
Some viewers do n’t wish Thea . Some viewers might argue that her rightful consequence of aureole comes later , but not everyone in a superhero TV series has to be a superhero . In a serial where nearly every eccentric faced death day by day , Thea managed to reel unimaginable drama out of her brother not being clear enough to her , her mother perhaps once have got an affair , and her purse getting snatch . Her brattiness transcended mere plot of land and character and reached the sublime , and I lie with her for that .

Roy ’s moment of nimbus comes in the Glades , where multitude are roister . In what I like to cerebrate is a touching testimonial to comical book Ollie ’s sixties protest sensibilities , many of them hold cardboard signs with slogan . Roy take in a cat being mugged by three people , beat two of them up , and take care alarmed when a the third draw in a gun on him . Thea comes out of nowhere and cracks the guy in the head with a bottle . They supervise to procure a machine , slalom through a “ say no to texting and driving ” PSA that I ’m impressed Arrow had the ball to put in the season closing curtain , and find themselves staring at a group of multitude who are immobilize on a bus topology . Roy send Thea on her way and consecrate to stay and carry through the masses . But before that pass ? He grabs Thea and gives her a big dramatic candy kiss . That ’s another tribute to the Green Arrow comedian . Heroism is all well and good , but nookie first . By honoring that , Roy get his mo of glory .
Meanwhile , Tommy laughingly tells his dad that Ollie thinks he ’s a supervillain , and is dismayed to find out that Ollie was right . Barrowmerlyn bring the tape of his married woman die to Tommy , apparently attempt a payback transference , but it break down . So he knock Tommy out and goes on his way .
Ollie , Felicity , and Dig have tracked the earthquake maker to an vacate tube place over a fault line of work in the Glades . Ollie says he ’ll go after Barrowmerlyn while Dig deactivate the temblor gadget with remote guidance from Felicity . Dig says no , he ’s going with Ollie to track down down the archvillain . Some would see this as heroism . I do n’t . I see it as smarts . Ollie dissemble like he was on the most life-threatening mission , but do on . He was mail Dig to a decrepit building , underground , over a fault line , at the direct epicenter of an earthquake . Dig ’s too smart for that . He ’s always been a bright character , and he ’s supplemented those smartness with a worldwide good nature and some dry - as - burnt - toast humour . Congrats on that , Dig . I ’m sorry your beloved subplot fizzled , but rent ’s hope you steamer up the screen with Felicity next season .

or else they place inadequate Quentin Lance , who has not caught a break all season . He heads down into the subways , with Felicity guiding him , and starts disarming the affair . As he clips a wire , the countdown clock all of a sudden starts dropping fast . He breathes , walk off , and makes a phone call to Laurel . It ’s very sweet , as he tells her not to make the mistakes he made and press citizenry away , but what I like best is the fact that he immediately knows she ran direct to her law firm in the Glades and just accepts it . It ’s nice to have existent smart cops in a superhero account , and that ’s what he is . Hurray for Quentin . He says a dear goodbye , and then . . .
Felicity gets him to go back to the bomb calorimeter and freakin ’ disarm it . And this is what I wish about Felicity . Some citizenry find her verbal awkwardness funny , but often it comes off as forced to me . What I like about her is she gets things done . In this view she listens to him make his dying call and is all , “ Oh , you think you ’re going out a hero ? Not on my watch . You ’re gon na live . Now do as I say . ”
Meanwhile , there is the ultimate fight between Barrowmerlyn and Ollie on a rooftop . He begins with “ Welcome , gentlemen , ” spiral through , “ Are you quick to die ? ” and ends , wonderfully , with , “ Your mother and sis will be join you in decease ! ” This last is said as Ollie is being choked into unconsciousness . Ollie grabs an arrow dwell on the roof in front of him and shove an arrow right through Barrowmerlyn ’s breast ( by manner of Ollie ’s own chest ) . He then order Barrowmerlyn that they ’ve deactivated the temblor gimmick . Barrowmerlyn smiles and says the one thing he learned as a businessman was the time value of redundancy . And dies . And break my fondness . Oh , John Barrowman . Your portrayal of a black - hearted bastard was a germ of joyfulness . I sincerely hope you rule a way to get along back to life , just so I can see that crevice chin and those preternaturally white tooth say more evil things . Goodnight , sweet prince .

There ’s a second twist . It spare most of the Arrow gang and seems to stumble only on the east side of the Glades , which is where Laurel ’s natural law firm is . Laurel , I think , got the most ungratifying purpose in this entire series . As the foresighted - term dearest stake , she had all relevant information kept from her while she was bounced around by plot points she could n’t possibly understand . I think they ’ll keep the ignorance going but , I desire , next time of year , they do more stuff with her split relationship with Ollie and with the Hood . Katie Cassidy really smooth with that stuff . This instalment , I reckon it was fun to see her , as the Endlessly Crusading Lawyer , still clutching files as she lead out of the natural law house — only to get pin under falling cementum occlusion .
And who should save her but … Tommy . He tells her he come because he loves her , and lifts the stoppage off of her . When he yells that she should run and he ’ll be right behind her , we know that Arrow has just about wash its hands of the Merlyn family . Sure enough , the building explodes outwards and when Ollie gets there , Tommy has a piece of iron through the chest . Ollie comforts Tommy , telling him that he saved Laurel ’s life history and that he ’s nothing like his father . Tommy looks up at Ollie , and it ’s a cadence of how all - around trade good the character has become , since he begin the serial as the obnoxious dear friend , that he pulls off his personal credit line with Ollie .
“ Did you belt down him ? ”

“ No . ”
“ Thank you . ”
And so Tommy is the last to go . Damn . That was really sad . You got me , Arrow .

I ’m shot through the heart . And you ’re to blame .
