Superhero team - ups are meant to be fun , but when one of the big supervillains around shows up in front of you , involve an alliance , and then secernate you that oh , by the elbow room , he ’s totally given up being a villain to take the place of Iron Man ? Well , those team - ups are fraught with risk … or should be , at least .
Today ’s Avengers # 7 — by Mark Waid , Phil Noto , Mike Del Mundo , Marco D’Alfonso , and Cory Petit — sees the Avengers confronted with Victor Von Doom for the first time since he roam apart his nefarious intent and decide tobecome the Infamous Iron Man . Although Doom use his conjuring trick to ban the interdimensional demon the team is scrapping with as the issue open up , they are by nature implausibly skeptical that one of the greatest foes of the Marvel Universe is claiming to descend in peace … all except for one of them . While the residual of the team is ready to tear Victor a fresh one , new Wasp Nadia Pym is excited to hear what Von Doom has to say .
Because Nadiaspent most of her young lifein the Red Room before breaking out to become the Unstoppable Wasp , she does n’t have the history with Doom the rest of Marvel ’s bomber do . While they know him as a heinous supervillain do-or-die to decree the world , no matter what he say now , she only hump him for one rationality : the fact that he ’s one of the smartest scientists in the world . Doom leverage Nadia fan - girling over him during the said cup of chai to gain her trustingness , much to the humiliation of the other Avengers , who do n’t believe Doom ’s electric switch to superheroics .
But why does a humans like Victor Von Doom need the help of the Avengers ? Even with his repentance , Doom is still as arrogant as ever . The reason is really quite touching — Doom has traced a serial of witching disturbances to the heart of New York , but the source is a location he does not care to enter for several rationality :
1 ) It ’s at an all - girls ’ camping area , which would be pretty unmanageable for Dr. Doom to walk into unnoticed , and 2 ) It ’s named in honor of Sue Storm , and the heartsick Victor does n’t like to stoke an incident that could top to it being damaged , out of affection for his unanswered love . He involve Nadia to pass through and investigate , and the Avengers to allow for musculus in the off chance things go awry .
This is a superhero comedian , so naturally things do go awry — Nadia discovers the seed of the magic malady is actually a chemical group of teen girls making a demonic accord with a lunar goddess named Anamelech . As with all sound diabolic accord , the girl set about to sacrifice Nadia as a blood tribute in guild to get their heart ’s desire … good job , like being the President of the US or a miracleworking physician . After all , they are attendees at a leadership bivouac . They ’re get gamy !
Both Doom and the Avengers stone’s throw in to save Nadia , and with her help , Doom seals the magical portal opened by the girls and finish the mission he ’d jibe upon with the squad — although Nadia has to prompt him not to allow the girls ’ ringleader die for her misguided use of magic . The hearing learns , however , that Doom had an ulterior motive in coming to the Avengers for assistant . He was test Nadia to see if she was as equal to of villainy as he ’d been lead to believe by AIM tidings . Seeing the young sub save the ringleader all but reassert to Victor that she was desirable of his corporate trust , and it appears the military mission ’s succeeder will lead to the Avengers themselves seeing that Doom is up to of being trusted , too , if the cover artistic creation for Avengers # 8 is anything to go by :
Victor Von Doom and Nadia Pym might have found unlikely friend in each other , but the Avengers might just have found an even unlikelier one . Could Doctor Doom himself be the latest member of Earth ’s Mightiest Heroes ?
