With the second episode , Dark Matter does two thing : finishes up the story of the mineworker and ask a quite a little of questions about who the crew of the Raza are . The 2nd part is much more interesting than the first .

sequence two pick up pretty much where episode one leave off , with the revelation that the whole crew — except for Four — are want crook . One , the fluffy high-minded teddy bear that he is , freaks out hardcore about it . Six and Two are upset . Three does not care so much what he did , does , or is . He jest about how various their law-breaking are , and One scoffs at him . Three : “ That ’s my defensive measure mechanism . sense of humor . That , and apparently killing people . ”
Oh , Dark Matter . I know I ’m being manipulated . I know that Three is basically Jayne — I have sex a peck of people name their triggerman in fiction , but with the whole distance cowman vibe this whole show ’s got going on , Three ’s “ This is Bubba , Lulu , and this one ’s Pip . But I do n’t name my knife . I ’m not a psychotic person ” schtick really , really comes off as a Jayne clone — but I ’m still a sucker for a mouthy asshole character .
Three ’s also the one who points out that the gargantuan megacorp who hired them is not going to be unhappy that they did n’t polish off the business and sold weapons to the mineworker . Even with the knowledge that they ’re mercenary send to kill the miners , Two keeps them on track : give half the weapons to the miners , sell the rest . Move on .
One , Three , Four , and Six go down to the planet . Two , Five , and the Android last out on the Raza . The team on the major planet is still pretending to just be some the great unwashed who chance to have some ordnance merchandise to give the mineworker , and One ’s still defeated because there ’s no more aid come — since the weapons on the ship seem to suggest that the assist the mineworker think they were getting was have out by the Raza — and the weapons he ’s give the miners is just false hope of a win .
He also climbs on his high sawhorse when the miners offer them food and drink ( and strain ! ) as a give thanks you . Three says yes , which just feels even more artful to One . Plus . it means that when a Ferrous Corp ship shows up to ask the Raza why the settler are n’t dead yet and sends its own troops to do the problem , One , Three , Four , and Six are still there .
Two tries to stall , but or else ends up own to meet the Ferrous Corp sea captain anyway , who says they ’ve be active on to Plan B. And then One take off in the Raza , with no warning to the crew on the land . The first few Ferrous Corp soldiers are easily taken out by the miners and the Raza foursome . Four spend some quality time with a beguile Ferrous Corp commando , who tell them they ’ll all die for this . And finally , Four pay back more to do than just accolade , death , swords :
Four : “ How are we run to die ? ”
Soldier : “ asphyxiate on your own parentage . ”
Four : “ Be more specific . ”
Four peak out that they could just destroy the colony easy , but they hired the Raza for deniability . And he wants more information . One cutaway later , he ’s telling Two , Three . and Six that Ferrous Corp ’s target is the superannuated generator the miners use : it run short up , and the dying of the excavation dependency goes down as an accident .
This is where Three proves that he ’s not just a bad guy . He ’s just a guy who loves fighting and take for the challenge of it all . He want to leave the miners out to dry out before , but now that he ’s stuck there , he ’s actually kind of dizzy when he tells Six that he kind of likes their opportunity .
Six , however , has figured out that Ferrous Corp can throw people at them until the caper is done . miss the ship in electron orbit , though , might be a loss bad enough to get them to back off . He proposes that he take the bird on what will in all probability be a felo-de-se mission . Thankfully , he gets capture before he takes off and I do n’t have to throw a show at my television . Because if this show had kill the calamitous guy first , I would have been forever and a day done .
The squad on the ground are okay combatant , but it ’s Two on the ship that saves the day . And wholly and utterly proves why she ’s in charge . She left so that she could negotiate a flock with Ferrous Corp ’s rival , the Mikkei Combine . Two of their ships , and the Raza , are now stand between the ferric ship and the dependency . A 99 - year lease make the miners protection and Mikkei does n’t want anything from them other than to bang Ferrous Corp out of being able to get it . If Mikkei and Ferrous can ever figure out a room to act upon together , the miners will get a cut of the profits . Congrats to Two , the smartest individual in this show .
As for the identity issues which drive Dark Matter above just the excavation saga — the beginning of the episode hits these very hard . One aver he ’s not a murderer , no matter what the files say . Two tell the Android not to call her Portia , she ’s Two . She like Two better . Four does n’t care who they used to be , since without memories of it , they do n’t matter . Six seems less implicated about his past times than that he know he ’s a great pilot burner , which can be a neutral acquirement , I guess . And Three is pretty happy that at least they are the best mercenaries .
Five , however , is n’t in the data file . The Android asks her if she ’s afraid of them now — have a go at it they have a story of “ violence , genial imbalance , utmost antisocial behavior , and deceit . ” Five sideboard that what matters is who they are now .
But she does n’t all consider that . Because she ’s upset that she ’s not in the files , is n’t a member of the crew . Everyone else knows they go here , even if the past rag them . With no data , Five is entrust out even of the anger and discombobulation of the others . And no approximation how she got where she is .
So , is it better to find out who you were and be let down or to know nothing ? And among the five who discover a condemnable past , whose reaction is the right one ? One ’s self-abnegation ? Two ’s determination to not permit a data file dictate her identity ? Three ’s shrug and good humour ? Four ’s witting choice to ignore it all ? Six ’s simple felicity at being capable to fly ?
Speaking of Six , what about the instincts they have that are n’t store ? Even without the memory , people ’s personalities are unattackable . Two is the loss leader , since she step up and everyone let her . Four ’s a fan of score a stand and die in a blaze of glory . No one was well-chosen to rent Six go off and pop off . These instincts mouth louder than the files .
Add to all of this Five ’s disposition to have other people ’s memories , which this week mean she knows that someone erased their memories rather than it being an fortuity . One is so obvious a candidate that it ca n’t be him — he respond so poorly to the file , that it could be that his data file is a fake and he used it to get on board to pass over everyone ’s memories . Plus , he was the first one up . He ’s either a red herring or a double - bluff . Four ’s receive a puzzle - box with a mysterious ring at heart , and he was the one to tell everyone to leave the memories behind . Maybe he did it . If we ’re feign the writers will go for the least likely looking defendant , then I guess Three . think we ’ll find out as the time of year pass away on .

The Android has n’t been that interesting to me , but her interchange with Five was pretty good . “ perhaps do n’t enjoin people you may smell their pheromone . ” “ But I can . ”
Tori Higginson was one of the Mikkei police captain ! Aw , there are going to be so many Stargate cameos in this show , and I am delirious . I still miss Weir .
So , beyond the super - stereotypic characters and plot , the most bothersome part of the show I ’ve go out are the activity episode . Oh god , kill the bad slow - mo . Kill it with fire . It ’s so uncollectible , and it makes the show look so cheap .
However , the moment where One , Three , and Four are quick to go out in a blaze of aura , only to scare the crap out of Six ? Priceless . That ’s the variety of thing I love seeing .
