Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late “Crocodile Hunter”SteveIrwin, is all grown up with a family of her own.
Bindi is the proud mother of daughter Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, 3, whom she shares with her husband,Chandler Powell. The couplewelcomed their first child on March 25, 2021, exactly one year after theywed at the Australia Zoo.
In her August 2023 PEOPLE cover story, Bindi shared that sheunderwent surgery for endometriosisand referred to Grace as her and Powell’s “tiny little miracle.”
Bindi added thatshe and Powell “feel so lucky to have Grace.” She explained, “there was every chance that we wouldn’t have been able to have a little one, so to have our beautiful girl, we are so lucky.”

Powell alsoannounced Grace’s arrival on Instagram, writing, “Thank you for gracing your beautiful mother and me on our wedding anniversary, so excited to have you home.”
Her middle name is a tribute to Steve Irwin

Bindihonored her father Steve, who died in 2006, with her daughter’s middle names. While Grace’s first name comes from Bindi’s great-grandmother and relatives in Powell’s family “dating back to the 1700s,” Bindiwrote on Instagramthat Grace’s middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to Steve and “his legacy as the most incredible Wildlife Warrior.”
In 2023, Bindi toldHello!that Grace’s name came to her only after she gave birth. “When Grace was born my first words as I held her in my arms were that she’s our ‘graceful warrior,’ " Bindi said. “Chandler and I immediately knew that should be her name. The name Grace Warrior suits our daughter perfectly and feels like the perfect way to honour the greatest Wildlife Warrior to have ever lived, my dad.”
She had her first “croc encounter” when she was 1 week old

She was introduced to animals at an early age

Given that her family lives at the Australia Zoo, it’s no surprise that Grace has been around animals since she was a newborn. Weeks after her birth, grandmotherTerri shared a photoof Grace next to some of the chickens at the zoo.
Powell and Bindi have also shared photos of their daughter’s animal encounters, including pictures of Grace next to kangaroos, tortoises and a koala.
“We’re so proud of our Wildlife Warrior princess. I know our darling girl is going to grow up caring for Mother Earth and all her animals,” Bindiwrote on Instagramto honor Grace’s 1-month birthday.
She has khakis like her mom

Grace is officiallya part of the “khaki crew,“the nickname Bindi uses for her family when they wear their Australia Zoo uniforms. Bindi’s daughter received her first khakis when she was just 1 month old, twinning with her dad in anInstagram post celebrating the milestone.
In 2022, Bindi posted anotherpicture of Grace sporting a khaki outfitand a big smile, which she captioned: “Khaki isn’t just a colour, it’s an attitude.🤎.”
She started walking shortly after her first birthday
Less than two weeks after celebratingtheir daughter’s first birthdayat the Australia Zoo, Powell and Bindi posted a video of Gracereaching a major milestone.
The short clip showed Grace taking steps all on her own from Bindi to Powell, who filmed the big moment. They captioned the video simply, “Big moment 💙.”
She’s “passionate about the natural world”

Grace has inherited the Irwin family’s love for wildlife. At a 2023 gala honoring her late father, Bindi told PEOPLE, “She just loves wildlife, and she gets so excited to learn more. It’s really remarkable to see how passionate she is about the natural world.”
Bindi shared that although Grace was only 2 at the time, she knows the names of many animals. “She just talks about all these different dinosaur names that we don’t know how she knows them all,” Bindi added. “It is unreal. I mean, I guess it runs in the family.”
Her family celebrates her “unbirthday” every year

Grace’s family has a tradition of celebrating what they call “unbirthdays.” On Instagram, Bindidescribed the traditionas celebrating when “you turn a half,” midway between birthdays.
For Grace’s second “unbirthday” in September 2023, Bindi’s little girl wasallowed to choose whatever she wanted from the Australia Zoo elephant shop.
In her May 2022 PEOPLE cover story,Bindi shared that Grace has a deep connectionto her late grandfather, Steve. “We have so many documentaries of Dad, and we’re always playing them for Grace,” Bindi said. “It’s so fun to watch her study him. I didn’t realize how much Dad’s passion for life and his animated facial expressions — I mean, they captivate her.”
According to Bindi, Grace stares at her grandfather “in complete and utter fascination” and “hangs on every word he says.” She added, “Whether he’s talking about a croc or a spider, she thinks it’s amazing.”
Bindi also said she “definitely sees parts” of her dad in Grace. “His determination and his inability to sit still. I think that’s really special. I’m excited to see as she grows up how her personality will develop,” she said.
Bindi added that she thinks Steve would have been equally as obsessed with Grace: “If Dad was around, honestly, we would never see her. He would be in love.”
